Corrections from people who have worked on the estates, in the factories, or at the auction floor are particularly welcome. The journal is intended as a living document and will be revised as fresh information arrives.

A note

This is a one-person editorial project. There is no team, no office, no advertising department. Letters are read in the order they arrive. Substantive corrections (matters of fact, dates, attributions, weights, yields) are read first; encouragement and disagreement are read at the weekend, with a pot of strong Dimbula and the morning paper. There is no charge for any of this, and nothing is for sale.

What you can write about

  • Corrections to anything in the field reports — names, dates, attributions, references, yields, elevations.
  • Reading suggestions — books, papers, estate diaries, archives I should know about.
  • Letters about your own connection to the tea country, if you have something to add.
  • Questions about a specific estate, factory, or auction lot — I answer what I can.

What I cannot help with

  • Travel arrangements, estate visits, or any practical tourism details — those belong elsewhere.
  • Sourcing tea or arranging purchase — the journal is not a sales channel and does not maintain commercial relationships with growers, brokers, or packers.
  • Press enquiries that ask for a verdict on a particular brand or a soundbite on auction prices — the reports are the verdict.
